Flats measured, not described
Every pair states the padding under the ball of your foot and under your heel in millimetres, and the angle the forefoot reaches when you bend it by hand. Compare pairs on those three numbers. We do not ask you to take an adjective on trust.

The second thing you see
Sort every pair by the padding under the forefoot, the padding under the heel, the flex angle, the heel height or the price. Set the hours you spend on your feet and the table filters on our own readings — which is a filter, not a promise, and not medical advice.

34 of 34 pairs shownA higher flex angle means the sole bends more easily with your foot. A lower angle means more material stays flat underfoot but the roll through the step is less natural.
Three readings, one method

5 – 16mm
The padding under the ball of your foot, read on an uncompressed pair with a depth gauge. Five millimetres is the Ballet Classic. Sixteen is the Derby Premium. Everything we make sits between those two readings.

8 – 22mm
Read at the centre of the heel seat. Heel padding runs thicker than forefoot padding on every pair we make, because the heel lands first and lands harder.

22 – 45°
The angle the forefoot reaches when the sole is bent by hand against a held heel. A higher angle means the sole bends more easily with your foot. A lower angle means more material stays flat underfoot but the roll through the step is less natural.
Six shapes
Flex, in motion
We hold the heel, press the toe, and read the angle the forefoot reaches. It takes three seconds and it is the same three seconds on every pair. The number on the product page is the average of three pairs in size EU 38.

Width, stated per size
Five pairs are cut on a wide last, one in every shape we make. Every size on every product page lists its internal width across the ball of the foot in millimetres, so you can measure your own foot and compare a number to a number instead of guessing from a letter.

Footwear sold in the European Union carries a three-part materials label: upper, lining and insock, outsole. The law says it has to be available before you order, so we put the whole label on the product page rather than only inside the shoe.
