Padding is read with a depth gauge on an uncompressed pair at two fixed points: the centre of the ball of the foot and the centre of the heel seat. Flex angle is the angle the forefoot reaches when the sole is bent by hand against a held heel and kept there for three seconds. Both are averaged over three pairs in size EU 38 and rounded to the nearest whole unit. The full method.

What this pair is

Ten millimetres under the ball of the foot is twice the Ballet Classic, and it still reaches 38 degrees. On this line that combination requires a stitched leather midsole rather than a moulded one.

The footbed lifts out. A replacement insole up to 6 mm can go under it without the topline becoming tight.

Hand-lasted and hand-finished, with the topline bound rather than folded.

Break-in

Two to four wears. Vegetable-tanned leather darkens slightly with wear.

Care

Wipe with a dry cloth after wear. Use a neutral leather cream every eight to ten wears and let it absorb for twenty minutes before buffing. Dry away from direct heat. Full care guide.
