Padding is read with a depth gauge on an uncompressed pair at two fixed points: the centre of the ball of the foot and the centre of the heel seat. Flex angle is the angle the forefoot reaches when the sole is bent by hand against a held heel and kept there for three seconds. Both are averaged over three pairs in size EU 38 and rounded to the nearest whole unit. The full method.

What this pair is

A buckled instep strap on the 35 mm block. Holding the instep is what keeps the foot from sliding forward on a raised heel.

Flex reads 25 degrees, one more than the plain 35 mm pair, because the strap lets the vamp be cut a little lower and thinner.

The buckle is a nickel-release-compliant alloy, adjustable over four holes.

Care

Wipe with a dry cloth after wear. Use a neutral leather cream every eight to ten wears and let it absorb for twenty minutes before buffing. Dry away from direct heat. Full care guide.
